Glad I read it though. The Young Prince As the young prince grew up he mastered all the traditional arts and sciences without needing any instruction. It went deeper than other religious teachings I have experienced, to some essential truths about the human condition. Seeing how all living beings are trapped in this vicious circle of suffering he felt deep compassion for them, and he developed a sincere wish to free all of them from their suffering.

Realizing that only a fully enlightened Buddha has the wisdom and the power to help all living beings in this way, he resolved to leave the palace and retire to the solitude of the forest where he would engage in profound meditation until he attained enlightenment. Since Buddhism has grown in popularity in the West, there are many introductory books out there, but this was the one that had the biggest impact on me.

An introduction to the rendition of buddhas life past idea of Buddhism is much different to the reality from reading this.

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, has a most gentle, encouraging way in which he describes the buddhist theory, practice and its lifestyle. He once told his father that he could count all the atoms in the world in the time it takes to draw a single breath.

Through meditation and study, I have come to be aware of the existence within myself of a soul called the "very subtle mind" by Gyatso that is primary to and independent of the body and ordinary mind.

It gives us the confidence to be the best person that we can be. The author of this is the founder of this organization, adn he is a Tibetan Buddhist monk who moved to England, split from the main Gelugpa tradition, and began his own. It went deeper than other religious teachi This was an important book for me, because I eventually became a student and member of this tradition, the New Kadampa Tradition of Buddhism.

These encounters left a deep impression on his mind and led him to realize that all living beings without exception have to experience the sufferings of birth, sickness, ageing and death.

During these visits he came into contact with many old people and sick people, and on one occasion he saw a corpse. I now believe that reincarnation of this soul is a very distinct possibility.

On first encountering this dharma, I was struck by its analysis of the endless struggle of ordinary human life, and this conformed with my views.

The prince would take every opportunity to convey spiritual meanings and to encourage others to follow spiritual paths. This wonderful intoduction t I enjoyed this book very much, it gave me a much better insight into who buddah was as well as their thoughts about what it means to be a buddhist.

In this explanation of the Buddhists way I was able to understand past and future lives, along with receiving a clear idea about karma and clarity on meditation Gyatso does wonderful job of outlining the basics of his Tibetan Buddhist teachings in this wonderful book. It is written very clearly and simply with examples and stories.

Although he did not need to study, he did so to please his father and to benefit others. During this read I learned about the path to enlightenment, thankfuly this also made sense to me. Because he understood the laws of reincarnation he also realized that they experience these sufferings not just once, but again and again, in life after life without cessation.

At the same time, there are aspects of this dharma that I have not had an easy time accepting, such as some of the ideas concerning karma. He knew sixty-four different languages, each with their own alphabet, and he was also very skilled at mathematics.

By witnessing demonstrations such as this, thousands of people developed faith in the prince.
